So I was listening to the radio the other day and heard a term that surprisingly I had never heard of before.  The DJ asked the question are you a Food Digger?  Interestingly enough it is something many of us singles are familiar with and some of us even practice it on the regular.  Apparently a Food Digger is just what it sounds like.   It’s a person that uses another for the purpose of getting a free meal!

 

Yep! You know all those times that you went out with that guy or girl (that you really had no interest in) because they fed you well. Or that girl or guy that you string along knowing that they don’t stand a chance but because he or she don’t mind treating, you call’em up when you’re lonely and hungry!  If you’ve ever practiced this or for some of you that still do - You are officially a Food Digger.

 

Now I’ll be the first to confess that I use to be a habitual Food Digger.  Notice I said “use to be”.   I remember those days so clearly.  I specifically remember this one guy who was head over heels for me but I just wasn’t into him.  Now I won’t divulge his name but he was a really nice guy and very generous.  And never had a problem in footing the bill for the meal!  So yes when I was hungry and broke I would call him up, flirt a little and out we’d would go for those hot wings or ‘all you can eat’ buffet or if I wanted him to feel like it was a date Red Lobster meal! 

 

Please don’t get me wrong – I’m not bragging at all.  At the time I just didn’t see anything wrong with it.  After all I wasn’t asking him for money, to pay my bills or to buy me things.  And I always made it clear that we were just friends.  Yea Right? 

 

Now that I’m older I realize how wrong it was!  I mean it was bad enough that I was using him for free food but even worse I lead him on continuously giving him hope where there was none and eventually hurting his feelings.  Needless to say, I regret every minute that I treated him that way – he didn’t deserve that.   

 

The fact is Food Diggers are no better than Gold Diggers!  They are all in the same family along with Users, Leeches, Manipulators, Exploiters and the list goes on. 

 

So those of you that are out using others for free meals – this article is just “Food for thought”.   Now there’s an official name for you!  So think twice before you call the next person up, lay on the charm and order that meal on his/her dime!
